Antiparos

The island of Antiparos

About Antiparos

Antiparos, the tiny satellite-island of Paros has evolved recently into a fashionable holiday destination. Its main higlight is that it offers the most charming aspects of the Greek summer in a very small size. Once a popular destination for free camping for the natural lovers, it has now become a favorite of the elite, trend-setters and art lovers, who own or rent the exquisite island villas. The small white-washed town (an extention of the port, which connects the island to the port of Pounta in Paros every few minutes by ferry, until late at night) has traditional colour, sophisticated all-day hang-outs and eclectic boutiques. Don’t miss the walk in the small Castle in the centre of the village next to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, while for dinner try the popular italian tratoria «Lollo’s» or the more sophisticated «La Louche» bistrot by a talented Belgian chef and «Kalokairi» with modern greek comfort food and delicious brunches. If you are in the mood for sightseeing don’t miss the Cave in the center of the island, combining naturalist and archaeological interest.

Antiparos overlooking Despotiko

The beaches are few but special, with small neo-bohemian beach bars and cafes, like «The Beach House» in Apantima or «Soros Beach» in the homonymous pebbled beach. Two very beautiful beaches are Agios Sostis and Faneromeni, with turquoise waters. An experience you shouldn’t miss is the trip to Despotiko (by boat or kayak from Agios Georgios), a complex of three uninhabited islets where the ongoing excavation has revealed important findings from the prehistoric and ancient times. The easy connection (10 minutes by ferry) makes the excursions to the multifaced cosmopolitan island of Paros a good idea when you feel you want more!
