About Skiathos

One of the greener islands in Greece, famous for its pine trees reaching the sand of the beautiful beaches, Skiathos offers both cosmopolitan ambience and idyllic spots for nature lovers. It is also ideal for discovering the nearby islands of Skopelos and Alonissos with riff boats. Skiathos town is lively with many restaurants and bars famous for serving cocktails on cushions along the big stairs of the bar-street. Discover the narrow streets of the Old Town with traditional houses, one of which housing the museum dedicated to the acclaimed local author Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851-1911) and enjoy the walk along the promenade to the Bourtzi islet with the remains of the Venetian castle at the end of the Old Port. Koukounaries, taking its name from the local pine trees, is the most famous beach, while the favorite for beach fun Big Banana, and Kanapitsa, Sklithri, Vassilia, Megali Ammos, Vromolimnos are also popular choices, all organized.

For more relaxed atmosphere try Elia, Ambelakia, Mandraki and Megali and Mikri Aselinos. There are daily boat trips around the island stopping for swimming in unspoiled beaches accessed only by boat like Lalaria with big white pebbles under the remains of the now deserted byzantine town of Skiathos, Kastro (meaning castle). You can also take the tourist boat or rent a riff boat to visit Tsougria islet with turquoise waters. A car drive with nice views brings you to the Evangelistrias Monastery. Those who want to explore the wildlife of the island have the opportunity to follow numerous walking paths of different degrees of difficulty in beautiful untouched locations. The Sporades Marine Park, the largest marine park in the Mediterranean, north of Alonissos, home to the monk seal Monahus monachus, can be visited by organized boat tours.
